Bucket List App by United Airlines

DESIGN

Unites Airlines decided to enhance its mobile app by providing customers with a diverse selection of onboard entertainment through Launch Pad, an app within an app gaming experience for customers. A select group of United UX Designers were tasked with designing a new concept for Launch Pad. My concept, Bucket List, inspires users to set travel goals, discover new places, and keep track of their accomplishments.

Designed with Functionality in Mind

After an initial discovery phase where I researched the current state of bucket list or wish list type apps, I creates a list of possible features and then began working on clickable wireframes to organize the app’s content and define the functionality. I wanted to explore how Bucket List could grow and evolve in future releases so I created two sets of wireframes, one that represented the initial MVP of Bucket List, and a second design to show how the app could grow and expand to include additional features.

The basic version of the app allows users to explore destinations, save then to their bucket list and keep track of places they been to. The advanced version built upon the basic version’s features to allow user generated content, more robust bucket list organization and tracking and the ability to share content with others.

Visual Design

After presenting my bucket list app ideas to the Launch Pad team, it was decided that I should create the UI for the basic MVP version of the app. Using United’s design system, I skinned the wireframes and created visual designs for each screen.
